The Commissary Opens at One Arts Plaza

Drum roll please….the newest addition to One Arts Plaza’s dining destination is now open! Five Star Chef John Tesar (also known for his previous work at the Mansion on Turtle Creek) has created his chef-driven concept, The Commissary.

It officially opens today for dinner with lunch following next week.

These chef-inspired burgers (made with organic, grass-fed beef) are priced at $5 – $8+. There’s another unique twist to it as well: the bar is offering wine on tap! It’s the only restaurant in the area offering this new trendy experience.

Guests can dine in the revamped Dali space, enjoy the expansive patio and outdoor lounge, or take food to-go in eco-friendly packaging. Tesar also plans to offer delivery services to One Arts Plaza residents and area businesses.

But wait, there’s more…a cheese cart offering 30+ gourmet cheeses and salumi AND a Chef’s Table.

VRM Relocates to International Business Park

Vendor Resource Management marked the official opening of its new corporate headquarters in Billingsley’s International Business Park on Tuesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Vendor Resource Management (VRM) is a leading national asset management firm in the foreclosure industry with over 350 employees across the country. VRM selected International Business Park (IBP) to accommodate the growth of the company and for its convenient location. “With 85,000 square feet of space and a centrally located campus with access to major thoroughfares connecting all of the DFW metroplex, IBP was an ideal selection for VRM,” replied Irv Baker, Director of Facilities for VRM. VRM decided to expand its operation after receiving a $750,000 Texas Enterprise Fund Grant. VRM exceeded the grant’s expectation of producing 275 jobs in North Texas and an estimated $.4.6 million dollars in investment capital in the area. VRM moves into its new corporate headquarters in Carrollton housing 339 employees. Carrollton Mayor Ronald Branson was among the dignitaries taking part in the ribbon cutting celebration of the new VRM corporate headquarters. “It is with great pleasure that I get the opportunity to welcome Mr. Keith Murray, Vendor Resource Management founder and CEO and his prestigious company to the City of Carrollton family of outstanding companies and businesses. Mr. Murray’s vision and record of success represent what is obtainable through hard work and intelligent management, even in challenging economic times. We are honored that he has chosen Carrollton to relocate his business and I wish him well in his growth plans and hope that he will call upon the City if we might ever be of assistance,” stated Mayor Branson. VRM’s new home in the International Business Park is a Billingsley Company property. “We are proud to have a Texas Enterprise Grant recipient as one of our tenants. VRM will be a vibrant part of our community at International Business Park,” says Lucy Burns, partner, Billingsley Company. Hyundai Capital Moves to International Business Park

Hyundai Capital America (formerly Hyundai Motor Finance Company), will assume 45,000 rsf at 6100 W. Plano Parkway at International Business Park. Don Yahn and Wilson Stafford with Cushman and Wakefield represented Hyundai Capital America; while Trevor Franke, principal, and Aarica Mims, associate, Peloton Realty represented Billingsley.

“Billingsley’s ability to understand Hyundai Capital’s business needs and their willingness to provide flexibility and protection for Hyundai Capital’s future expansion needs were important factors in finalizing this deal,” explained Franke.

Hyundai Capital America, which will be expanding its operations to the new offices and adding employees, said the Gold LEED certification, accessible location and sophisticated building design played a role in the company’s decision to move to International Business Park.

“Billingsley has a can-do negotiating style,” says Sukjoon Won, CEO, Hyundai Capital. “They were able to creatively solve and fulfill many of our business needs including an above market parking ratio which is important for our employees.”

“We continue to strengthen International Business Park as we secure landmark deals such as Hyundai,” says Lucy Burns, partner, Billingsley Company. “We look forward to helping the company and its employees easily transition into their new offices.”

Rebuilding Lives with Women For Women International

Representatives from Women for Women International (WfWI), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women survivors of war rebuild their lives, were in Dallas this week for a fundraising event.

WfWI provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools they need to transition from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency. By providing financial aid, job training, rights awareness and leadership education, WfWI helps women transform from victims to survivors to active citizens.

The guest of honor was Christine Karumba, the Country Director for Democratic Republic of the Congo. Christine spoke about her recollections of the growing climate of uncertainty leading up to the country’s civil war in the early 1990s and the years of destruction that followed. Karumba has helped more than 8,000 women rebuild their lives after what many consider to be the deadliest war in documented African history.

“Women for Women is an incredibly vital, impactful organization,” says Lucy Billingsley, who is a board member. “I think many people are aware that there are terrible situations abroad that women are suffering through, but they don’t know how to help. WfWI makes it possible and even simple for anyone to give assistance to these women.”

For just $27 per month—that’s less than $1 per day—sponsors can help a woman survivor of war triumph over overwhelming obstacles and build a new life for herself and her family.

The organization is currently active in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan. WfWI has helped more than 271,000 women in these countries overcome sexual violence, food crisis, concentration camps, genocide, beatings and worse.
