In these trying financial times, many people think that hiding in a bunker with a mattress full of cash is the best way to survive. Turns out that is not the case. Contrary to popular belief, this is actually a good time to buy a home, shore up your finances, or even refinance your existing mortgage. Here is a great list of survival tips from U.S. News.

We just finished our video for Two Arts Plaza. This is a fun, cool video featuring Lucy Billingsley, Peter Riley—Managing Partner at Thompson & Knight LLP, Joseph DePinto—President and CEO of 7-Eleven, and others talking about the changes going on in the Dallas Arts District.

Because of our involvement with the development of the Dallas Arts District, including One Arts Plaza, we’d like to share a cool little video with you featuring some of our neighbors.
Now is a great time to get down to the Arts District. The Tut exhibit is going on at the DMA (One Arts Plaza is offering a free shuttle bus), and The Marriage of Figaro has one more performance this Saturday. Plus, there’s always great food at the Plaza.
Teresa Beaird, Office Administrator/HR Assistant, informed everyone at Billingsley Company today that in order to help with our Green initiatives, we’re going to begin limiting the purchase of disposable cups and lids. We can reduce the amount of paper materials used every day by simply bringing our own cups, mugs and lids to the office.
We’d love to hear about other Green ideas. If you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Becky Rowland, VP of Property Services, explains how Billingsley Company is making an impact by promoting responsible, energy-saving initiatives in all our developments.
• In 1996 Billingsley planted over 900 trees at International Business Park and Austin Ranch. We changed common area lighting in our office buildings to energy efficient fluorescent bulbs, and light sensors in all common areas.
• We’ve done a lot to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills including buying coreless bathroom tissue, bamboo paper products and recycling at IBP.
• At 6100 Plano Parkway – Phase 15 – We purchased 35% Renewable Energy to meet the LEED – Gold requirements. In addition, we also purchased REC’s for Austin Ranch – Billingsley Property Services is now EPA Green Power Partners.
• We are also very proud to announce that Rogers-Obrien Construction received the Environmental Star of Excellence award last month from the City of Plano for the International Business Park Phase 15 project. The award was presented for Sustainable Building which included the 1,400 tons of recycled construction debris (97%). The award was issued with a check made out to Rogers-Obrien Construction in the amount of $500.00. We deposited the award money, then turned around and wrote a check to plant trees in the City of Plano in the name of Rogers-Obrien and Billingsley Development.
Remember, while we’re doing our part to be Green you can too. Please recycle, turn off lights when you leave a room, monitor your water usage, and walk or ride a bike when you can. Together we can make a difference.

Those of us who are pet owners already know this, but a study by the APPA revealed that pet ownership is on the rise in America. There were 73.9 million dog owners in the US in 2005/2006 (up from 65 million in 2003/2004). Studies show that pet-related spending has doubled in the last ten years in the U.S.*
Dogs are so popular, in fact, that they even have their own social network called dogster.com. This site allows pets owners to post their dog’s profile, photos and more.
These are a few of the reasons why Billingsley Company believes it so important to have pet-friendly apartments and condos. The trails at Austin Ranch offer the perfect walking area for families and their furry loved-ones, while the unique “doggy” concierge services of One Arts Plaza gives urban doggies a chance to live in the lap of luxury.
